Frigyes Hidas was a conductor, pianist, organist, and, not least, one of Hungary’s most prolific composers. His oeuvre comprises well over 200 works for the theater, symphony orchestra, and chamber music. He made particularly significant contributions to wind and wind band literature. His musical language remained true to tonal music, and he jokingly referred to himself as Hungary’s last romantic composer. The versatility of his musical legacy, however, testifies to a high level of technical skill, which is especially evident in his numerous solo works for wind instruments. The first biography of this undoubtedly underrated composer has now been published.
